About us

The story of Amazon began in 1995 with an ambitious dream. Jeff Bezos, the company's founder, aspired to create an online bookstore offering an infinite book choice. The name "Amazon" was no accident. Bezos wanted his company's name to begin with an 'A', ensuring it would always appear at the top of alphabetical lists. After consulting the dictionary, he chose "Amazon," an exotic name that evokes the largest river in the world, symbolizing the grandeur and expansion he envisioned for his company. Since 2000, the Amazon logo has featured an arrow from A to Z, forming a smile that cleverly represents customer satisfaction and the company's ability to offer everything from A to Z.

Amazon has quickly diversified its offerings, expanding from books and CDs to a wide range of products, including electronics, toys, clothing, and home appliances. Its catalogue now boasts over 350 million products, including those from third-party sellers, offering customers an almost infinite selection.

Guided by four core principles—customer obsession, passion for invention, commitment to operational excellence, and long-term thinking—Amazon aspires to be the most customer-centric company, the best employer, and the safest place to work on Earth.

At Amazon, every day is considered the first day, a mindset that keeps the company true to its original mantra: make smart decisions quickly, stay responsive, innovate, and focus on customer satisfaction.

The company is set to power 100% of its operations with renewable energy by 2025, five years ahead of its original target of 2030.
