The Regroupement des Sociétés de développement commercial du Québec (RSDCQ) oversees more than 50 SDCs in 25 municipalities and 13 regions in Québec. Together, the SDCs represent some 20,000 merchants, who help keep downtown cores and commercial arteries vibrant by investing $25 million in private capital annually. The SDCs ensure these sectors’ economic vitality by supporting their sustainable development and long-term prosperity.
For over 40 years, the SDCs have been playing a key role in various fields such as economic development, urban planning, event management and local promotion. They intervene directly to improve the quality of life of neighbourhoods while contributing to the success of local businesses. As the organization representing these SDCs, the RSDCQ advocates for them at the government levels and with different associations in order to defend their interests and promote solutions to issues faced by local businesses.
The RSDCQ also wants to position itself as a major actor in discussions on the vitality of downtown cores and the implementation of best practices. It works to guide and support its members through the business challenges they face.
With this in mind, the RSDCQ started a partnership with Québec company Freebees, with support from the Government of Québec. The rewards platform, which is helping to modernize the sector through a digital offering, showcases products verified by Les Produits du Québec. Quebecers are encouraged to buy local while retailers benefit from a new channel to increase sales. The project is a collective effort to increase business competitiveness and enrich the customer experience.
The RSDCQ and Les Produits du Québec
“Buying local plays a critical role in maintaining the strength of our commercial arteries and the dynamic energy of our communities. As the Regroupement des SDC du Québec, we chose to partner with Les Produits du Québec because we believe in the power of the collective, in the importance of promoting what is produced locally and in the concrete impact of every gesture when it comes to the health of Québec’s economy.”
– Glenn Castanheira, President of the Regroupement des SDC du Québec
