ABOUT
Marielle Saucier is the artist and crafter behind the textile world of Carré Courbe. She hand-weaves durable kitchen linens from natural fibres that make everyday life more beautiful. She also creates unique decorative pieces that play with contrasts: comforting structures, unexpected spontaneity, squares joining curves.
Her works are divided into three main series. Improvisation volumes, emphasizing spontaneous momentum and intuitive gestures; Volumes carrés, exploring repetition and organic shapes within clean lines; and Improvisation combinatoire, creating a sparse dialogue between curves, embroidery and beading. Together, these series reveal different ways of approaching material, rhythm and texture.
Marielle Saucier exhibits her work in Québec and Ontario, and her pieces can be found in both public and private collections. She pursues an ever-evolving artistic practice, fuelled by experimentation and manual work. At the same time, she teaches and leads textile workshops, generously sharing her expertise and helping to grow a dedicated and curious creative community.
Carré Courbe in the spotlight
In 2024, the company made its mark on the Montréal fine crafts scene as a finalist for the François-Houdé Award and winner of the Jean-Cartier Emerging Artist Award.
Carré Courbe and Les Produits du Québec
Carré Courbe’s products have earned the Manufactured in Québec certification mark as part of a partnership between the Conseil des métiers d’art du Québec and Les Produits du Québec, launched in December 2024.
“The Manufactured in Québec certification mark is important to me because its a reliable marker for people who care about the quality and origin of their purchases. It also encourages discussion about local and artisanal manufacturing. Buying locally means investing in our community, promoting and preserving our expertise, and nurturing a vibrant, shared culture.”
