The Retail Council of Québec (RCQ) is the voice of the retail sector in Québec. Representing the majority of retailers, it plays a key role in the province’s retail ecosystem. A leader in its field, the RCQ advocates for its members at the government and industry levels, proposing practical solutions adapted to retailers’ strategic challenges.

Membership counts more than 5,000 commercial establishments, from department stores and independent and franchised retailers to chains, big-box retailers and buying groups, or nearly 70% of the retail-related economic activity in Québec. The RCQ also welcomes partners who support the industry such as real estate developers, financial institutions and chartered accountants.

The association’s mission is to represent, promote and support the retail sector and foster its and its members’ development. It takes a proactive approach, marked by concrete solutions to meet the challenges faced by its members. Governments factor the RCQ’s views into their decision-making, particularly in areas of direct concern to retailers, such as e-commerce and industry regulation.

Every year, the RCQ organizes Hop! the Retail Summit, a major event that brings together industry leaders to discuss the trends, issues and challenges shaping the future of retail in Québec. Through its commitment and leadership, the RCQ has established itself as a key player and effective spokesperson for Québec’s retail sector.

The RCQ and Les Produits du Québec

“The RCQ’s mission is to represent, promote and enhance the retail sector in the province. This sector is the largest private employer in Québec, with retail sales of over $180 billion in 2024. We should be proud of our merchants and everything that is produced, manufactured and designed here. Buying local is good both for our economy and the environment. It also keeps our neighbourhoods dynamic and enriches our lives with unique and innovative products. That’s why we’re partnering with Les Produits du Québec.
